Post Mortem

Or Facing Life?
When is the beginning of the ending of life? We need to be able to accept a reality that has been imposed by the ability to prolong life. What can be done as opposed to what should be done . . . what qualities of life are a part of this balance? An exceptionally well presented documentary that poses a simple question that has too many answers. What is a 'good death?' Is the concern for the patient or the patient's family? Physicians, surgeons, patients, and families are faced with having to find an answer within a myriad of complexities. To find answers, all aspects of a patient's care are taken into consideration because the answer is an 'unknown.' This has become a dilemma within modern medicine. There isn't a single equation that can be used to determine treatment vs. no treatment. This presentation may be helpful in allowing one to make their own decision. The information is accurate and not over dramatized. Listen carefully and understand the responsibility that we can choose...

Frontline is a necessity
Few other documents of the modern world enlighten viewers as thoroughly or frequently as Frontline. The volume of rigorously collected knowledge in these films is invaluable to the human race.

The best show on TV!
No one else compares.. objective, accurate and timely information on local, national and international issues. My only regret there isn't more.

Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorfs

A Passion For Fashion? Check Out This Breezy Profile Of New York's Most Iconic Department Store
Being someone who watches documentaries about every conceivable subject, I like to speculate about how much cross-over appeal a movie might have. Some documentaries strike such a universal chord, they can be embraced by a diverse array of viewers. Others may have a more specialized allure. Matthew Miele's "Scatter My Ashes At Bergdorf's" might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it is practically essential entertainment if you follow fashion and/or if you're a shopping enthusiast. Profiling New York's legendary department store Bergdorf Goodman, this star studded affair is a veritable who's who of the fashion world. From designers to celebrity clientele, dozens upon dozens of well known personages weigh in on what has made this shopping destination such an iconic and elite spot.

It would be virtually impossible to rattle off the names of every contributor to this project, but here's a sampling of some of the bigger ones: Designers include Giorgio Armani, Michael Kors, Manolo...

Love it. A Behind the Scenes Look at the Richest Department Store in History
The fabled Department Store Bergdorf Goodman is profiled here, and this is a behind the scenes look at it, and it is fascinating. If you love fashion, as I do, and labels, as I do, you will LOVE this video. I've shopped there before, and had personal shoppers before, but had NO IDEA the amount of money they make, nor the amount of money these big moneyed customers drop at a single shopping trip (amazing!). If you're fascinated by the uber-rich and their world, you will eat this UP.

All I could vision were gowns and gowns...
And was delighted to learn the business side of Bergdorf's. An interesting insight to those of us who live too far to really experience. I mostly enjoyed the history and the older photographs etc. What a great store...it is my dream to visit. And yes, please do 'Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's.'

The Conspiracy

As Advertised
I watched the trailer for the film and was intrigued and saw that it would be released on the internet within a few weeks so I made note of it and moved on. Today I saw an ad on another site for the trailer again and after watching the trailer again I was still interested so I decided to give it a watch.

First off I will say I enjoyed the film, and I think if you watched the trailer and you were interested in the movie based on the trailer you will enjoy it. If you watch the trailer and it does nothing for you then skip it, because it is exactly what it promises to be. I even thought that the trailer would be a bit misleading and it would be bad, but it wasn't. If you want over the top action, a roller coaster ride of thrills, or out and out suspense this isn't going to quench your thirst for those things.

Do not get me wrong, it has it's moments. There are a few twists and turns, but overall it is what you want it to be after seeing the trailer. It is well made,...

A for effort
While this movie was cheap, cheesy and predictable, I still found it entertaining. It missed the mark in many ways, but it hit a bulls eye on some of the cool documentary-like scenes when the two young film makers crashed a retreat from the elite one-world ruling class.

I liked the betrayal -- you have to watch to understand. All in all, it was worth a look.

One Of the Better of the Genera
Found footage and faux documentary films are over done and seem like an easy way out for lazy filmmakers who can't tell a compelling story or develop interesting characters, still some are better than others. "The Conspiracy" is one of the better ones. Like "Lunopolis" the found footage is interspersed with interviews from "experts," and, disturbingly, real footage from world events we'll all recognize, giving the documentary an authentic feel. It feels like a documentary. It's also disturbing and creepy, and feels like a slow burn thriller.

The filming was expertly done and the music... WOW! The music was impressive, especially the music for the ceremony scenes. I was surprised to read on IMDB that the composer hadn't scored many films. Well, his music captured the mood and character of this film well.

The Canucks can mark one in the "win" column over this movie. If you enjoy found footage or conspiracy themed thrillers then you will probably enjoy The...

The Servants Revolt

More than a period drama or reality tv
I enjoy Upstairs Downstairs type dramas and was interested in a realistic look at the early 20th century. In this series, one family takes the role of the wealthy family living in a manor house for 3 months. 12 volunteers become their servants. They all live as close as possible to the rules of that time. This was very interesting because the participants bring 21st century views into the 1914 lifestyle. It is a difficult adjustment for most of the them. A former servant's visit and stories about relatives that were in service add authenticity. For me, the series brought to life the unique struggles of the different social statuses in that society. It also made me consider that many of the "freedoms" and "rights" of today were not available to everyone just 100 years ago.

Manor House
I was drawn in by this project. There is so much history and information given. I was somewhat disgusted by the way some of the participants acted. It shows how very spoiled we are in this day and age by all the conveniences that we have. It caused me to look at my own life to see what my work ethic is and if I am really appreciative of all that I have at my disposal.

Worth watching
I like the concept of the younger generation getting to know what the history of roles was like back when their ancestor's lived it. Looking forward to see how the series plays out.

King of the Streets [Blu-ray]

A rebel with too many flaws
Yue Song is the writer, director, action director, and editor of "The King of the Streets." He's obviously taking a Jackie Chan-like approach with this film, which is also probably a project that's very close to his heart. Unfortunately, "The King of the Streets" is nothing to boast about.

As you can likely already foresee, "The King of the Streets" wants to wow you with action over everything else. The story is lacking in every sense of the word. It's extremely cliché and predictable; a reformed rebel trying to turn his life around is sucked by into the world he tried to leave behind. The film also repeatedly references Bruce Lee not only in name but in presentation as well as "The King of the Streets" makes it a point to constantly re-use and or re-imagine the Japanese school fighting scene from "The Chinese Connection."

You begin to question the logic Feng has, as well. Who in their right mind would confidently walk up to 85 guys with weapons and try to...

Good
This movie is a good movie. Keeps your attention and the storyline was great. I was really impressed with this movie.

Good Movie
Typical story of a boy who becomes a man and after spending some time in prison becomes better than bruce lee..

Idont know about all that but was a pretty sound story even though the fighting looked like a wiff a wheel .. you know people going in a circle and swiping a bat at the hero untill its their turn.

still tho i liked it.

Andrew Dice Clay Indestructible

pleasantly surprised a very worthy follow up...
I wasn't a big fan when Dice was a big thing. I was busy with life and the only comic I continued to follow from childhood was George Carlin. I did note the fanatical following but also the equally fanatical backlash. I ended up meeting him one day and realized what a nice family man he was and also that he had to be clever to create such a popular and polarizing character so I investigated, picked up some old CDs and DVDs and was entertained. I did notice a big fall off in quality after his big MSG show however, the DVDs after that really were bad imitations of his earlier act and even his shtick was a bit laughable. Being a big fan of comics I decided to give him another try and as you can see bought this from Amazon.com.

I guess they plan on selling these at shows and through the mail only because it comes in a paper sleeve so thin you may not even believe a DVD is inside. the show is a bit slim as well coming in under 50 minutes ... with opening bits etc. BUT, it is a...

the dice is swingin'!
Maybe I totally forgot... yeah, that must be it. I remember watching Andrew Dice Clay back in 1996. That was when I was becoming a teenager and my dad and his ex-girlfriend were debating if I was old enough to watch it. I was 14. They eventually gave in and let me see it... and I haven't been right since! Now, 15 years later, he's back! I had NO idea Andrew Dice Clay actually took time off from the big stage all these years. I did often wonder what happened to him. He had a sitcom I believe, and I'm pretty sure it never became much of a success. Obviously he couldn't be himself on such a show, which means it was destined to fail.

Anyway, if you're worried that Andrew Dice Clay has mellowed out in his old age, you are 100% wrong! Indestructible shows a man STILL extremely talented, still remarkably inappropriate (for *all* age groups, hehe!) and still obsessed with sexual-related humor. As we all are... and don't lie! The sexual stuff is why you're watching this...

God show..
I just received this and just watched it. It is very entertaining. A bit raw and vulgar but he does do it in a fun way. Overall I found it worth the time just to hear some very funny things.

The Good Fight

The Good Fight
The Good Fight is a favorite movie of mine especially with Terry O'Quinn Happy to have it on DVD now

This movie fell way short
This was supposed to be a movie about a lawyer willing to take on big tobacco and fight for a young athlete who developed cancer from using tobacco. There was some of that in the movie but mostly it was about the relationship between the lawyer and her former husband. There were too many sex scenes between them and we never really got to know the victim, who appeared in only a few scenes. This movie had tremendous potential but fell far short because of a bad plot and amateur directing. The acting was good.

The Five of Me

From the Back of the Box:
Henry Hawksworth (David Birney) is a man menaced by a multiple personality. There is Dana, the conservative family man; Johnny, violent and sociopathic; Peter, creative and childish; Phil, protective and unemotional. "Phil" fights in Korea. "Dana" falls in love with Ann (Dee Wallace) and marries her. Their relationship is characterized by Dana's changing personalities- from "Johnny", who burns her with a cigarette to "Peter", who recites poetry. Following a crime, "Johnny" is arrested and tried. In court Henry's multiple personalities are painfully revealed. This is a compassionate drama based on a true story.

This Movie should say Two Women and a Husband - I'm not going to give away the story here - but I'll say this - I believe most adults will enjoy this film - There is no foul language / no nudity and if I was going to rate it - I'd give it a PG13 only because under 16 I don't believe would understand the friendships involved / the parenthood's involved. Four 1/2 Stars is my real rating and that's because the first 15 minutes are very slow to the real true grit of this film.

Once Upon A Time: The Complete Second Season [Blu-ray]

Big changes in a little town...
There are some big changes in Storybrook in this second season of "Once Upon a Time." With the breaking of the Evil Queen's spell at the end of last season, Storybrook's residents are once again aware of their fairy tale identities. However, nothing in this dual world of reality and fairy tale is ever simple. For one thing, no one can leave town. For another, it isn't easy to get back to the original enchanted land that is home for the characters. For a third, Regina, the once and future evil queen, just can't seem to go straight, locking horns with Prince Charming, with Mr. Gold, and finally with a long lost relative.

There will be excitement and enchantment galore in the second season, as the backstories of yet more characters are revealed, and as characters travel between their two worlds. Emma and Snow make a dangerous trip back into the land of enchantment, only to be stranded and left in mortal danger. Their journey will give Snow a chance to teach Emma about...

Five Stars Isn't Enough!
Giants, ogres, werewolves, Frankenstein, Mulan, Captain Hook ... what do all the things have in common? Once Upon a Time Season Two, that's what! This is the series that has single-handedly changed the face of television fantasy and made ABC a major player in creative, prime-time entertainment.

This show has almost limitless possibilities and (at the writing of this review) is creatively satisfying the potential of an ever-expanding setting while maintaining continuity with previous episodes. To date Once Upon still hasn't sold out to the HBO/Showtime/AMC paradigm of dark/edgy/gritty; a thematic bandwagon I'm so sick of I could literally vomit and more importantly they stick with the main characters from season one, continuing to develop them in a huge way (e.g. the welcome "manning up" of Charming) while constantly introducing new ones.

Also, I've sort of come to expect sub-standard or straight-up cheesy FX from television as a given and this is where Once...

Rashomon

Truth & Illusion.
If you have never seen this film, you will come to it and find it very familiar. That's because Rashomon has become part of the world's consciousness & lexicon. It's story of an action involving several participants, each with their own differing version of the truth, has been elaborated and riffed-on by many others since it appeared on the world's stage in the 50's.

So, it is an old movie, often imitated. And yet, I found it fresh and involving and well worth a look. As Robert Altman says on the DVD extras, many of the camera techniques, particularly shooting directly at the sun and allowing lens flare, were taboo-breaking and radically new when this film appeared. Now, that is put in as a joke in Shrek.

So you come to Rashomon not to be overwhelmed with its "newness" and the refreshing change of first encountering Japanese cinema and acting styles. No, you come to Rashomon as to an old master, to appreciate its lasting impression of the universality of human foibles and...

Review of Criterion 2012 Blu-ray, 2012 DVD, 2002 DVD

Alternative Expressions Of Fact: A Puzzle Without Solution
Somewhat curiously, Japanese critics were not enthusiastic about RASHOMON when it was released in 1950 Japan. Today, however, RASHOMON is generally considered to be the film that introduced both master director Akira Kurosawa and Japanese cinema to the west; it is also often cited as the film that prompted The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to create an award for Best Foreign Language film. It is widely regarded as a masterwork of world cinema.

Set in 12th Century Japan, the film's premise is at once both very simple and very complex. A man is found dead in a forrest, and several people are brought forward to give testimony in the matter. In some respects their accounts agree--but in numerous others, some obvious and some very subtle, their stories differ. As each character gives his or her version of events, the various differences pile higher and higher, leaving the viewer to wonder at the motivations involved.

Has each person simply...

This was actually a pretty good movie. None of the acting was too bad. And the story was pretty good. The sets and costumes were all top notch as well. My only real fault with the film is that there is no ending! Except that if you have been watching along, you kind of already know how it will end. It just leaves you curios how it gets there. Enlightened: The Complete Second Season

The Most Beautiful Show Brought to Cable Cancelled....So Sad....
This is a sweetly beautiful show filled with a very complex purity. It was one of my favorite shows. (I am extremely disappointed to see that it was cancelled this month.) In any case, Laura Dern is just superb in her complexity and "cuteness factor". And Mike White, and all the rest of the cast, along with the entire production, are just genius. So very sad to see it cancelled.....But thank you HBO for bringing us this TRUE gift for the two seasons it was on. I am definitely buying the DVD's now.....

A New Pilgrim's Progress
What can an everyday person do to help change the world? Enlightened Season Two maps the territory in an erratic, sometimes aimless way that eventually delivers its punch through underplaying (yes, even Laura Dern and her mother try underplaying here, to great result) and some script surprises which I dare not reveal in this public space, eve though the show's been cancelled and anyone who cared for it has doubtless subscribed to HBO and gone for it. But anyhow when the end times came for Enlightened I put aside my grudges and totally embraced the ethos of the show, confusing and arbitrary as it is/was.

I should add that some varied acting helped the pace of Season Two. Viewers, some of us, had a hard time with Laura Dern's continual swing between relentless optimism and Nazimova-like gloom, which occurred in every episode; one wanted to reach out and counsel her, Amy Jellicoe, don't stop taking your meds just because you saw a flower in your mother's garden. And...

HBO needs to release this on blu-ray
I emailed HBO asking them to please release Enlightened Season 2 on blu-ray. They never responded, which is another slap in the face (the first slap being the cancellation of Enlightened).

Still, the show ends on an okay note instead of one which leaves you hanging (like the finale of Season 1) but Season 1 was released on blu-ray, so why not Season 2?

Is HBO really that stingy that they are only going to release Season 2 on DVD? I don't even buy DVDs anymore.

If ANYONE working for HBO happens to read this...PLEASE tell whoever you need to that fans of the show would like to own both seasons on blu-ray, not just one.

Our show was cancelled. Please, be gentle with us and give us Season 2 on blu-ray. Please.

If you haven't checked out Enlightened yet, I recommend buying Season 1 on blu-ray. I watched Season 1 during a difficult time of my life, and it really picked me up and touched me. I'm sad to see it end, but both Season 1 and...

Fail
I am a grown woman without children. I am a huge fan of Marvel & DC comics and most of the cartoons and movies derived from said comics. This review is mostly intended for other adult fans.

Disney XD is using this show as a replacement for Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes. As a fan of the first series, I couldn't wait to try the new series.

I generously gave these series two stars because of the quality of the animation. The animation is crisp and clean, and it affectively uses split screens to give it an almost comic book feel. And if your kid's a fan of shows like Ben10 he or she will probably enjoy it.

That said, Mom and Dad probably won't enjoy it. The script is like bad fanfiction. The dialog is cheesy, the situations are cliche, and everything happens too quickly and conveniently. Falcon comes off as an overgrown fanboy, Iron Man as a stalker, and no one can act civilly to each other. The vast majority of the dialog is one hero...

Great Show
I followed Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes from beginning to end and I was sorry to see it end after only two seasons. I think Avengers Assemble is the perfect successor for the series.

You know who else loves this show?
This is hands down my favorite thing on TV. My entire family including my husband and kids ranging from four to eleven can watch this and crack up laughing. The best thing is I don't have to cringe in fear that there's going to be a bunch of inappropriate sex scenes or anything like that. There is "violence" but more along the lines of looney tunes type stuff.

For me this show has characters that I can totally relate to, I feel like I know somebody like everyone on this show which is what makes it so funny. Even though the situations always get totally out there you can still relate with these guys. At the end of the day the heart of this show is these two lovable slackers and there friendships with eachother and their coworkers.

Give it a chance and I think you'll love it. OOOOOOHHHHHHHH!

Grave Secrets

PATTY DUKE..EXCELLENT AS ALWAYS!!
I first saw GRAVE SECRETS about 10 years ago and recently bought the

DVD here in the UK. I myself am a paranormal investigator and found

this movie to be one of the best movies based on a factual ghost story

I've ever seen, Yes it is a TV Movie, So if you are expecting Special

effects galore and Hollywood-ised horror then you wont get it here.

This is one of the most realistic movies based on ghosts and is mostly

like how it really is. The story is based on actual events "the legacy

of hilltop drive" and stars the amazing actress "Patty Duke" who is

well known for all her excellent "based on real events" TV Movies.

This movie has an excellent story, and what makes it even more gripping

and interesting is that its based on real events that happened to the

whole neighbourhood at hilltop drive. Every house hold had a ghost and

eventually the whole...

GREAT MOVIE!!
I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST TRUE GHOST STORIES I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!! PATTY DUKE IS A GREAT ACTRESS AS ALWAYS!!! ANOTHER GOOD TRUE GHOST STORY TO WATCH ON DVD IS "SIGHTINGS:A TRUE GHOST STORY"

YOU ARE NOT IN BROOKLYN ANYMORE
I know Patty Duke was in lots of films between The Patty Duke Show and this movie, most notably as Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, but I couldn't resist going back in time. Grave Secrets is based on a true event where the spirits of those buried come to haunt the houses on Hilltop Drive whose owners don't realize there is a cemetery under their houses. Patty plays a wife and mother who takes charge of her granddaughter while her daughter is away. right after moving in, Patty hears the sound of a toilet flushing, only there is no one there to flush it. Later, her granddaughter sees shadows on the wall no one else sees. As in any haunted-house movie, things build up until the climax and the secret of Hilltop Drive is revealed. While other movies were better, such as The Haunting and The Legend of Hell House, it is neverthless unnerving in part because this one is real, and in part because of the acting and special effects. I have it on a video along with Ghost Story, Poltergeist,...

Lovelace (Watch Now While It's in Theaters)

Outstanding performances carry this movie
Let me state upfront that I, like most people, have heard of Linda Lovelace, but I knew next to nothing about her, other than she starred in "Deep Throat" (which I haven't seen) over 40 years ago. But this movie made quite a splash when it was first screened earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival, and I couldn't wait to see it. Now the movie is finally out, both in theatres and on VOD.

"Lovelace" (2013 release; 93 min.) starts in 1970 when we get to meet Linda (played by Amanda Seyfried), living at home with her ultra-strict parents (played by Robert Patrick and Sharon Stone). Linda gets to know Chuck (played by Peter Sarsgaard) and they hit it off. It's not long before Linda moves in with him (and eventually marries him), but it's equally not long before Chuck, in desperate need of money, is getting Linda involved in shady things, leading to what eventually would become "Deep Throat" (for which she was paid $1,250). But the problems with Chuck run much deeper than...

Amazing Amanda Seyfried
This dark tale about the horrific life of Linda Lovelace is hypnotizing. The cinematography is gritty. While I cant tell if the fashion(70's) is what made it so dark, or if it was a choice of the directors to bath the story in dimness. Peter Sarsgaard portrayal of Lovelace's husband is remarkable. While historically he plays dark characters well he is particularly heinous, and subhuman in this part. His talent to paint himself as this truly despicable character will leave a bad taste in your mouth, but none the less will keep you glued to the screen as he descents.

Other honorable mention includes Robert Patrick. His scenes seemed to touch me the most. He portrayed Lovelace's father and seemed the only one who captured what the audience is left feeling. Complete sympathy for Linda.

With that being said if there is no other reason to watch the movie than do it for Amanda Seyfried's performance. She totally disappears in this role. She takes you through Linda's...

Powerful
Well-done! The actors were fantastic and the story was compelling, although painful to watch at moments. It was nice to actually learn about the actress behind the $600 million-grossing "Deep Throat" and not just marginalized her as "that actress who did THAT movie."

The Bitter Storm

See Yesterday's Tales of Tomorrow ... Today!
Not long ago, I had only heard about the television show Tales of Tomorrow just twice: once as a passing reference as an inspiration of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone in his PBS documentary, and once more when I saw the episode "All the Time in the World" at the Museum of TV and Radio in NYC when I visited there last August. I had always liked TZ and I was happy to see one of it's predecessors which had left the air before my parents were even born. I was not disappointed as the episode was another example of intelligently wielded suspense and science fiction, the kind of show that they just don't make any more (well UPN tried, but let's not talk about that right now). There were other available episodes, but my family and I had to leave the museum, but imagine my happiness when I heard that a DVD boxset of Tales was coming.

Tales of Tomorrow: Collection One is a series of selected episodes from the first season of televisions first sci-fi anthology series (including the...

Most interesting artifact from television's early days....
Tales of Tomorrow is really the forerunner of so many popular science fiction programs that dominated sci fi's "golden age" during the late 50's thru the 60's. The ideas for series like "One Step Beyond," "Twilight Zone," and "Outer Limits" can trace their ideological and creative roots back to this series. For example, one episode, "What You Need" was also picked up by Rod Serling as a story idea. Even John Newland, host of "One Step Beyond," plays a protagonist in one of the less memorable and weaker episodes.

While it is easy to be put off by the flubs in dialogue or the flimsy and cheap sets, the series is fun to watch while the story ideas remain different, imaginative, and creative. The episodes have been restored and remastered as best as possible by Wade Williams Productions. Wade Williams and his production team was responsible for restoring such greats as "Rocketship XM" and "Destination Moon" back in the mid-80's, often finding and restoring lost (in some...

Great set!
Thank you, Image, for releasing TALES OF TOMORROW on DVD. This first set contains 13 episodes from the first season. The quality is excellent, considering these shows were made more than a half-century ago. Some of them even include the original commercials! Menus are fine and include chapter markers within each episode. Please, Image ... release more!

TEST TITLE - Bars & Tones HD2 [HD]

Amazing
One of the most important movies of our generation. Eloquence and lost love permeates very aspect of this film. I found myself bawling up more than once.

OK, for what it is.
I've seen my share of test patterns so I think I'm a good judge of which ones are able to really render the colors and patterns with the best accuracy. Well, for a start I think this started well, there was a real sense of urgency in the first 10-20 seconds, but about at the 30 second mark I felt like the entire production quality lacked...finesse. It was like the director and producers lost interest. By the final 10 seconds you could tell it was as unexciting as watching paint dry.

I honestly expected more from the entire production crew. Maybe they'll bring out a sequel? We can only hope that that one will really draw us in and keep us glued to our seats for the entire minute.

The Good Son

Excellent movie!
Had the opportunity to view the premiere of this movie in Youngstown, Ohio, with Ray and Mark Kriegel, the author of the book, present. For those of us who were a fan of Ray, this film completes his story. A touching film, it showcases Ray in the spotlight, but gives due credit to Kim and his family. It was, and still is, a fascinating story, told in Ray's words. I highly reccomend this film to anyone who was a fan of Ray's, or in boxing in general....

Moving...
I don't seek out documentaries, I guess because of all the ones I've seen that have an agenda, an angle, and I feel like I'm being hustled, manipulated. I saw the trailer for this one, however, and took a chance, which is really what you're doing when you consider the limited nature of time and money. I would pay to see this film again. It is the moving story of a man coming to terms with the life-and-death nature of his trade and the weight of responsibility that can come, unsolicited, into a person's life, never to leave. It is ultimately, though, a story of endurance, reconciliation, and hope. I cannot recommend The Good Son highly enough.

Good choice
Well done documentary, which boxing fans especially will love. Thought provoking and heartbreaking as well. Would recommend to all, nothing offensive except one f word for all audiences.

Chopped Family Feud

My friend Sev was one of the Chefs
Great episode of Chopped; especially since my friend Chef Sevan was competing. I don't think the judges liked him because he was a bit too cocky so they chopped him a bit unfairly. Watch this episode and judge for yourself.

I am a total chopped fan!
this does not disappoint i promise. you will enjoy this if you like the past seasons so get ready! its great

love it
Chopped is exciting, inventive and often inspiring. It gives me lots of cooking ideas and techniques and listening to the judges helps me understand food, plating and conceptualization

Fairhaven

Loved this movie!
This is a thoughtful, inspiring Gen X movie about "who am I, who are we, and where does it go from here?" This movie will speak to anyone who has ever woken up and wondered if there is more out there than the present moment and what does it take to make the changes to get where we want to go. A deep cast performs flawed characters who win your heart. The cinematography is stunning--great shots of the eastern coastline in winter.

Don't Bother
There was no real story line or plot. The cinematography others may refer to is close ups of getting stoned. I found nothing remotely intersting or noteworthy about this film.

I really wanted to like it but....
I really wanted to like this movie and there were parts when I thought it might get good but it never did!! It lacks a story line. You just feel like you're watching someones life without any direction what so ever! There were a couple parts when I thought it was going to get good but it never did. In the end I'm glad it was only 1hr 20something minutes that I wasted of my life instead of 2 hours.

Bury Me in Niagara - Digitally Remastered (Amazon.com Exclusive)

good for GWD fans
Bury Me in Niagra AKA in the USA as Ghost Mom has two notable actors-- Jean Stapleton and Geraint Wyn Davies ( Nick Knight of "Forever Knight"). GWD's characer is a doctor who has an intrusive mother ( Stapleton). When she dies she holds a "lucky pebble", ( a disguised mystical ruby) and her ghost insists that her body be buried in Niagra. Road trip via ice cream truck, pursued by Chinese gangsters who want the ruby, the son finally meets his father. GWD hams it up in various scenes and while the movie lacks some credibility at times, it is a comedy in the same vein as the Hope and Cosby road trip movies. Being a GWD fan I liked to see him in a comedic role as Nick Knight was mainly too angsty.

Not just for GWD fans!
OK -- I admit that I originally only bought this video because I wanted to see Geriant Wyn Davies in something other than Forever Knight.

After watching the video, however, I can definitely recommend this to just about anyone. The movie is light-hearted fun. Jean Stapleton is perfect as the mother who doesn't know when to let go.

The alternate title of "Ghost Mom" would make more sense than the "Bury Me in Niagara" title does. Regardless of what it is called, watch the movie and enjoy yourself for 1

The Tribe

superb, hilarious, sage, soaring
This 18-minute movie alternately had me laughing out loud and reeling internally from its sheer profundity. Just about all you'll ever need to know about the Jewish people and Barbie. But maybe I'm biased, because I'm MOT.

Awesome
I love this, helps to explore Jewish Identity, gives some history and does a lot to stimulate conversation with friends.

Superb!
This is possibly the best documentary I've ever watched, and it's only 18 minutes long. Way to change the game!

good, but very annoyed I did not realize it was a SHORT
Cute and clever, but only a few minutes long. I did not realize it was a film short, until it was too late. They should put "Short" in the title!

Short and Sweet
Particularly good for those who didn't grow up using computers, clever and charming, with the added benefit of having Dame Judi Dench in the starring role.

delightful - and quite computer savvy for age group
Dench. And cast do not disappoint!

Would love Dench in:

"Langusten", Fred Denger

"Geliebte Stimme" Jean Cocteau (engl. Title ?)

G.B.Shaw , "Applecart" Orinthia/Magnus

G.B.S. - Stella Campbell Correspondence

"Cabaret" Frl. Schneider songs

Hank Smith Live: Wit and Wisdom to Strengthen Youth

Wonderful!
I have a family with 5 kids ages 3 to 18 and we all loved this DVD. It is the perfect length and Hank Smith's sense of humor keeps you engaged the whole time. His connection with teens is wonderful. My 18 year old introduced us to Hank and now his voice is heard in our cars, and in our home. It's one thing to listen to his stories, but it's amazing to hear his stories and watch his facial expressions as he tells them. When I would listen to his CDs I would often say, "I wish I could see his face while he tells this story." And then my daughter saw Hank's DVD. She bought it immediately and we watched it immediately. A definite must, especially if you have teens (I have 3). I Recommend this DVD and all of Hank's CDs. You'll find yourself laughing as you recall his great stories.

Inspirational, Motivational, Hillarious!
Listeners will not be disappointed. If you've never listened to Hank Smith, check out You Tube and then buy this DVD. Hank speaks at many Especially For Youth Conferences. These conferences are attended by many Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints youth. You don't need to be a member of the church though to understand many of the concepts that Hank speaks about. It is relevant for mainly 12-18 years old. However adults will definitely be able to relate. This is great to watch as a family or have the kids watch it on road trips. Either way you will probably watch it more than once. Even better share it with a friend or extended family.

As a parent of four kids under 7 - I loved it!
I'm a big Hank Smith fan. He is an excellent teacher, has excellent stories, and he has an excellent spirit about him. I've listened to his CD's (which are all WONDERFUL!), and the DVD did not disappoint. It was fun to see his expressions as he talked. Even though his target age group is the teenager (12-18-ish), as a 33-year-old parent of kids under 7, I really enjoyed watching it. It's a great reminder to stick to your values, AND it will help me as I'm raising my kids. Hank Smith is entertaining and definitely worth watching for anyone any age!

Knight Rider: The Complete Series

worthwhile amazon bundle
This appears to be a repackaging of the separate Knight Rider single season DVD sets.

I have purchased sets from amazon that contain combined DVD seasons multiple times and I have never been disappointing. In general it appears that they are reducing current stock by lumping things together. With this you get a great price. On amazon each of these seasons originally retailed for almost 30 dollars. The box set cost almost 130 dollars at some point. Right now the box set can be purchased for $90!

The main drawback to these bundles is that you do not get the fancy packaging that would be provided with the "Knight Rider: The complete collection" box set. The complete collection box set comes with a whimsical red bar that lights up and plays the theme song. This is actually very creative, especially if you need a large 80's showpiece for some reason. If somehow you are just looking to enjoy the episodes then you might want to consider this deal. It depends on whether...

Knight rider
I love this product. Now I can watch knight rider anytime of the day. I used to love watching it when I was younger.

Shoddy, shoddy discs...
What, are these like half burned or something? One disc out of every season doesn't want to play. Other than that, I love it.

Episode One

very informative...beautiful to watch
it was very informative and the cinematography beautiful. I'm going to be taking a 12 day Carribean cruise next April. Seeing this maybe me anticipate it even more.

Looking for ideas to travel to Carribean
Whiile Trevor went to some interesting places, it was pretty much a look at how the ultra rich travel to private islands, and how the natives live in poverty.

Not a good sampler at all for someone looking to be introduced to the Islands. It was good for some very narrow cultural experiences.

Pretty lame
Not interesting and the Cuba episode was pure Cuban propaganda and the host swallowed everything his "hosts" allowed him to see.

A Werewolf Boy

Just like with "The Tower", we get short-changed on a domestic release.
After watching this incredible film, I bought the South Korean blu-ray release a couple of months ago that does come with English subtitles. The blu-ray release is OUTSTANDING!!! The film itself is powerful, touching and absolutely wonderful; gotta love South Korean cinema. I also bought the South Korean blu-ray releases for "Deranged" and "Helpless". Unfortunately for domestic customers, "A Werewolf Boy" is only being released here on dvd. THAT TRULY BITES!!! Really! The same was with the domestic release of South Korea's disaster epic "The Tower" being released domestically ONLY on dvd. Why Magnolia or Well Go USA didn't grab up these two great films for domestic blu-ray releases is anyone's guess? I am ordering the South Korean blu-ray version for "The Tower" as well. There is no point in buying dvd versions when these films are available for import on excellent blu-rays WITH English subtitles. CJ Entertainment dropped the ball on both of these great films. Oh well.

A compassionate and sincere journey
The fantasy and romance aspects of "A Werewolf Boy" are well covered as discovering a strange creature living in someone's house who the family eventually takes a liking to is bizarre to consider yet easy to relate to. Compassion is a feeling "A Werewolf Boy" takes pride in making not only the viewer feel on a consistent basis, but its characters as well. The relationship between Suni and Cheol-su is also a bit awkward as you can probably imagine, but it results in feeling like "Beauty and the Beast" by the time it's over.

The werewolf part of "A Werewolf Boy" is where things get tricky. While Cheol-su has werewolf traits, he doesn't really have much in common with them. There's one brief scene where he howls at the moon and all of his transformations are at night, but a full moon doesn't affect him one way or the other and he only transforms when he gets angry. He's more or less a hairy version of "The Incredible Hulk." Cheol-su is super strong and is absolutely feral by...

LOVED IT
This movie is so good. A great story line. The acting is supurb. I love this story. So beautiful and touching. Prepare to cry.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec (BluRay/DVD/Digital Copy)

Not a Hollywood Film!
Thank heavens, and it doesn't suffer from the predictability and cliches of Hollywood that almost every movie from that town does nowadays. One never knows where The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec will end up next, and that's half of the fun. Pterydactyls, mummies, and raising from the dead have never been as fun, or as fashionable. Louise Bourgois, as Adele, is wonderful. And for those of you, like myself, who don't speak French, the English dubbing is well voiced (although not necessarily always well synchronized). It's nothing more than a silly, fun romp, but it is a very good silly fun romp.

Wait for the Director's Cut
This movie is very fun, but unfortunately Shout! Factory has decided to release a censored version that removes the briefest of nudity scenes from the movie. A scene actually shown in the theaters. What's worse is they're releasing a "Director's Cut" version in just a few months. That's a rather poor decision considering this version was not advertised as being censored and people who bought it had no idea of a Director's Cut coming out in October.

So before you say this review wasn't helpful because I gave it 1-star, I'm giving 1 star solely for the release and not for the movie. Shout! is being greedy and trying to get people to buy it twice. If you support that then go ahead and say I'm not helpful.

I hope others who read this also post similar reviews so that they realize they can't treat their customers like this.

Region 0 version English & French 5.1 Dolby Digital
In addition to what little information that Amazon provides for this title;

It's also 1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen

and runs 112 minutes and is NTSC video format

And it is Region 0, not Region 1. This DVD is Region Free and will play worldwide.

Friendship Under Fire

Entertaining
This series is good but I have to say I was a little disappointed by ID this time around. Compared to Disappeared, Nightmare Next Door, etc. this series is not as suspenseful, and it does not help that all the story lines revolve around pretty much the same thing. Good but not worth the price;(

First installment was the best.
Having read the book and seen the made-for-TV movie some years ago, this story was so difficult to believe. CRAZY TWOSOME!

I like it!
This is one of the better crime shows produced by Investigation Discovery channel. The stories are interesting and well done and the series host does a great job.

Ain't Scared of Your Jails - 1960-1961

Excellent documentary series
Even for those of us who grew up during this time, but somewhat removed because we were kids and lived in California SF/Bay area this documentary is incredible eye opening, revealing and educational. I am so glad that we found this! Excellent - well worth watching and showing our kids who may or may not just have heard a bit about this in some history class or other.

This award winning series is still riveting.
I would suggest that every American view this series periodically.
There is more to the story of the Civil Rights movement of the 50's and 60's
but this tells a huge part of it. Even the first episode about Emmett Till is
great history that is still applicable today.

But please don't stop with this series. The story is inflammatory and necessary.
But understanding requires more research than could be presented in a few hours.

Eyes on the Prize!
A must see for anyone concerned with making America a better place and anyone that wants to learn more about the ills of US politics and policy.

Prince Avalanche

Reap the rewards of solitude
Writer and director David Gordon Green has kind of lost his way over the last five years or so. Known for making independent dramas that were genuinely well received by critics, Green made the jump to R-rated comedy in 2008 with "Pineapple Express" which went on to gross $87 million domestically on a $27 million budget. Green would stay in the R-rated comedy game for a while with "Your Highness" and "The Sitter," both of which either flopped or barely made a profit. "Prince Avalanche" seems like a return to form for Green and while it isn't groundbreaking, it's definitely an experience worth having.

"Prince Avalanche" has some amazing cinematography. The film opens with fires damaging acres and acres of land as you helplessly witness a sea of trees burn to the ground. As you're watching it, you can't help but feel the devastation of the fire, the extreme loss, and the severe sense of hopelessness. At the same time, it's kind of beautiful in a sorrowful kind of way. Little...

Talk About A Great Film!
I have no words for this film, and yet I'm writing this review. I loved it and that is all!

Not a comedy
This looks like one of those things that actors like to do for themselves after they get sick of doing too many "Hollywood" movies. It's been a long time since I saw "Waiting for Gadot" that may have been an inspiration. Two pathetic, depressing characters just picking at and on each other. If that's your idea of funny then you might consider this a comedy. (You might also consider getting some therapy.) I found "Our Idiot Brother" to a lot more sad than humorous. This one made me want to open a vein. So Paul, sorry I loved your early stuff.

Showdown - Part 1 [HD]

Hot! Best TMNT since 80's
Very good character development and story telling on all four turtles, Splinter, April, Shredder and the rest. I'm 28 and watching this series is making me feel like a kid again. Its bringing me back to the 1980's TMNT level. It's everything the 80's show had and more! The folks who put this together at nickelodeon are doing a FANTASTIC job! And I hope we get at least 10 seasons if not more. If you are an 80's baby, This new version of TMNT will do very well to keep the turtles alive in this new generation of viewers and the producers deserve our fan-ship for all their hard work.

I Love The Show but...
I love the new TMNT show, believe me. The only problem I have with buying the episodes on Amazon or iTunes is the fact that Volume 2 is listed as the "Second Season" when it's the second half of season one. It's what's stopping me from buying the episodes, because $30 for half of a season is kind of ridiculous.

Great series.
I, like many reviewers was a fan of the original animated series. Like many of them, I love this series. The biggest downside is waiting for the new episodes to become available on Amazon, sometimes the wait is 2 weeks. That being said, it is well worth the wait.

What Maisie Knew

Excellent movie
No laws, or social programs, exist to protect children from emotional abuse. In 'What Maisie Knew' the Maisie character is in the center of a collapsing adult world of increasing desperation, where emotional abuse is the final weapon. The story line follows Maisie as the sometimes intended, sometimes accidental, victim as she copes with life.
Excellent acting, casting and directing. The girl who played Maisie is brilliant.

"You are my 6th favorite girl!": Unlikeable Characters Course 101
"What Maisie Knew" (2013 release; 93 min.) brings the story of Susanna (played by Julianne Moore) and Beale (played by Steve Coogan) and their young daughter Maisie (played by newcomer Onata Aprile). As the movie opens we see Susanna, an aging (has-been?) rock singer, and Beale, an arts dealer, arguing frequently and loudly, and in front of Maisie. It doesn't take long before Susanna changes the locks on the front door, and Beale gets his own place. Maisie finds some relief with Margo, the sitter. Susanna and Beale go to court, where Susanna gets denied sole custody, so off goes Maisie between Susanna's place and Beale's place. Maisie is very surprised to find out that Margo has moved in with Beale. At that point we are about 35-40 min. into the movie and to tell you more would surely ruin your viewing pleasure, you'll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Couple of comments: first and foremost, this is a tough child custody drama in which the child sadly...

A perfect example of why everyone should not be allowed to have children. A must see with amazing performances. I say A.
"None of this is your fault." Susanna (Moore) and Beale (Coogan) and going through a bitter and nasty divorce. Stuck in the middle is their 6 year old daughter Maisie. While they focus on their own lives and how to one up the other their new partners are left to care for the little girl. There are some movies that after you watch leave you speechless because words don't do the movie justice. The two for me that come to mind are The Passion Of The Christ and We Need To Talk About Kevin. This is in another category of movie where it leaves you speechless because there are so many things you want to say about it but find it hard to express. The little girl who plays Maisie really steals the movie from Moore and the other big names by portraying a girl with such innocence that you really want nothing but the best for her in the hell she is going through. Besides being a very great movie it will also make you feel different about being a parent and why putting your child's welfare ahead of...

Hatchet III: Rated Version

The Third Chapter Of The Victor Crowley Saga Gives You What You Expect, But Lacks Much In The Way Of Surprise
If you've enjoyed the previous editions of the modern horror franchise "Hatchet," let's just say that the third chapter serves up exactly what you might expect. That is meant both as a compliment and as a criticism. Unlike some, I can't proclaim that I thought the series was ever a brilliant new addition to the horror canon, but I did think it offered an amusing throw-back to old school filmmaking. That's what "Hatchet" was (and is) for me: fun. A moderately scaled movie that mixes humor with gore, you look for the next grisly way that the villain will dispatch his victims. It's all about the creativity of the confrontation and the subsequent slaughter. Everything is so over-the-top in effects and execution, it is hard not to laugh even when the series is at its most brutal. "Hatchet III" maintains the body count and the bloodshed of its predecessors, but the series is definitely showing signs of wear in the creativity department. Although there are a few clever murders, most are...

THIS IS HIS SWAMP
This story picks up with Marybeth (Danielle Harris) "killing" Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) again. It was nice of the producers to use the same person to play Marybeth this time. She is in jail while local police check Honey Island Swamp only to find a bloody mess. Like Jason, Victor never dies so you can figure out the rest.

Sid Haig has a bit part in this film having comedic "Paula Deen moments." I did not enjoy this as much as the one with Tony Todd. This film had its comic and dark comedy moments, but was pretty much an over the top slasher with blood spraying unrealistically all over the screen as if it was coming out of a pressure washer. The characters were decent in this one, but the film lacked a certain eye candy. Plenty of blood and gore, easy on plot.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity. Danielle Harris being hosed in shower with discreet arm and leg placement.

Should have taken the swamp tour.
Victor Crowley takes a gunshot to the face, has Danielle Harris's fist go through his head, and gets cut in half by a chainsaw. Throw in a little GWAR, and you have the first five minutes of Hatchet 3.
Is it original? No.
It is however bloody, gory, and often funny and should please any fan of old school slasher horror flicks.

Equality U

What Campus Is Really Like
This film offers a glimpse at reality of the treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students who attend religous schools. One guy even admits (thanks for capturing that on video, Dave & J.R.) that donations are more important than the lives & faiths of lgbt students as well as the souls of the administrators who torture them. Money is the obstacle but the effects shown in this film have opened eyes and compelled many in positions of power to acknowledge what they do. Whether or not they change will be up to viewers of this film and others like it who take it upon themselves to demand the torture stops. Buy the DVD. Eyethink Pictures, Dave O'Brien and J.R. Robeck do awesome and thoughtful work.

Equality U brings out every emotion.
I am the sister of one of the students who went on this long emotional trip. They all had to endure so much. Some good and some bad. I was thrilled when this finally came out to let others view it. I saw it on a cable channel, and watched it just about every time it came on. I may be bias due to the fact that my brother was a part of this, but who ever says it is not factual needs a wake up call. Unless you are in, or were in these wonderful young adults shoes, you cannot say that. This is a perfectly made documentary film, full of truth, that everyone needs to see. It is almost like a tool, to teach you and get you to understand what their lives are like on a daily basis having to struggle with their personal choices. These are smart god loving young people who are trying to help their fellow men who struggles along with them in schools that deny them their rights as human beings. Some have suffered terribly by the so called "school rules", some had taken their lives, and some,...

Timely, Thorough & Thoughtful
Dave O'Brien & Eyethink Pictures' "Equality U" is a timely, thorough and thoughtful look into the lives of 33 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Straight activists as they visit various US colleges and universities to confront anti-gay discrimination policies. The activists, part of the Soulforce Equality Ride, spent two months on the road, traveling by bus, to visit 19 schools--with the Eyethink Pictures documentary crew in tow. Specifically, the documentary focuses on the experiences of several of these young activists, called "Equality Riders," as well as a few students they met along the way. While no film has time to be perfect--and this documentary runs a fairly standard 90 minutes--Dave O'Brien brings the viewer into the middle of a super-charged issue: the place of LGBT individuals in conservative, privatized, exclusive (and usually faith-based) communities.

Yet while partaking in the larger cultural debate around LGBT identities, this film chooses a unique...
